Millions of U.S. children in more than 300,000 classrooms in 10,000 communities in all 50 states will benefit from D.A.R.E. this year. D.A.R.E. also benefits millions of children in 53 other countries. Additionally, all Department of Defense Schools worldwide and all U.S. Territories have D.A.R.E. programs in place. More than 50,000 local law enforcement officers are certified to teach the D.A.R.E. program, although D.A.R.E. is not a government program. Since its inception, funding for D.A.R.E. student educational materials and instructors training is provided by D.A.R.E. America, a non-profit organization. Less than one percent of D.A.R.E. Omaha Together One Community - View full profile - View listings Omaha Together One Community Founded 1995 OTOC exists to recreate community. In our fragmented society, people are disconnected and conversations about important issues are often difficult. OTOC seeks to reweave the frayed social fabric and connect people across the lines that tend to divide them: race, economics, religion, geography. OTOC is broad-based, multiethnic and interfaith. Members are institutions, mostly congregations, although civic organizations, such as neighborhood groups, Home Town Associations and PTAs also participate. We teach people to become effective leaders, explore their legitimate interests, do solid research, engage in sometimes tough (but always respectful) public discourse, hold elected officials accountable and create positive change through collective action. Through the practice of these skills, people build relationships of trust and, by acting collaboratively, become part of solving their own problems rather than expecting someone else to take care of them. This is OTOCs iron Rule: never, ever, do for others what people can do for themselves. Community organizing demands time, talent, discipline and commitment. Those willing to do the work experience personal growth and transformation. Leaders trained by OTOC have witnessed the impact OTOC has made on their congregations and the community at large. Omaha/Douglas County Victims Assistance Unit - View full profile - View listings Victims of crime suffer in many ways. Victims endure physical suffering as well as emotional distress. Crime imposes financial hardship on the victim, such as loss of wages, medical bills, and property damage. Anger, guilt, and confusion occur as a result of the crime and are naturally followed with feelings of anxiety, fear and frustration towards the criminal justice system. These victims need our help and support. The Douglas County Attorneys Victim - Witness Program is concerned about ensuring the victims rights in the criminal justice system. Our purpose is to prevent the victim from getting lost in the system by assisting the victim with information concerning the case and possible compensation. We personally encourage and support the victim and the family throughout the process, while treating the victim with decency and compassion during this traumatic and emotional time. The criminal justice system is meant to bring justice and relief to victims and their families. The process, however, is long and complex. Time is needed for the correct information to be acquired and for the information to be filtered through the different levels of the justice system. Our office will help guide the victim through the legal steps. Therefore, it is important that the victims remain active and confident in their cases to help ensure satisfactory ends. We need victims and witnesses help to increase the number of crimes reported and to make our community a safer place to live. Also during that time, the major meat packing plants left South Omaha. This created an employment and financial crisis, especially for minority families, many of them Hispanic. The clinic was expanded in 1970 to include Hispanics and was renamed the Indian-Chicano Health Center. In response to the rapidly growing population of Spanish-speaking patients, the clinic has moved and expanded services three times. In 1999, the clinic moved to a 11,000 square foot building located on South 36th Street. The clinic is currently located at 4920 South 30th Street in Suite 103. A satellite WIC Clinic was established in 2002 at St. Joseph's church in South Omaha. People speaking at least 17 different languages have been patients at the clinic and 37 countries have been represented by our staff. The clinic\'s international population led to the name change in 2003 from the Indian-Chicano Health Center to OneWorld Community Health Centers. Papillion LaVista Senior High School - View full profile - View listings Papillion La Vista Senior High School PLHS concession standPapillion La Vista Senior High School, often referred to as Papio, PLHS or "Old School," is located in Papillion, Nebraska and is operated by the Papillion-La Vista Public School district. The current principal of Papillion La Vista High School is Jim Glover. History The District now called Papillion-La Vista Public Schools, which oversees Papillion La Vista Senior High School, has its roots over 130 years ago. Fifteen years after the establishment of Papillion in the Nebraska Territory, the citizens of the town established the first school in 1872. This became the first school district in Nebraska. La Vista, a relatively new town, had no education system of its own. The students of this new development area had been incorporated into the Papillion School District. With the sudden growth, the existing Papillion High School, east of the current building, had to educate an increasing number of students. By September 1969, voters in the district had passed a bond issue to build a new High School facility at 84th and Centennial. A similar bond issue the preceding year had been defeated. The school opened its doors August 1971. The former Papillion High School had become Papillion Junior High. The district, and the high school, were renamed in 1987, as La Vista became a larger city. To avoid conflict, possibly resulting in a separate La Vista School district, La Vista was added to the High School\'s name, as well as the district, making it Papillion La Vista Senior High School. A Split The Students of Papillion La Vista Senior High School were recently split, with a new high school in southwest Papillion being completed. Papillion La Vista South High School, PLSHS, was opened in the fall of 2003. This resulted in more room at Papillion La Vista Senior High School, and the freshman class was moved from the junior high schools to the two high schools. PLHS had previously been a 10-12 school.
